Death: Season 2, episode 10 -- after a successful telethon and meeting Shy Baldwin, Shy offers Midge a spot on his tour to open for him. Midge immediately races out to her manager Susie to tell her the news and then goes on a shopping spree. Midge, not paying attention due to sheer excitement, her arms full of clothes and hats and obscuring her view, will be hit by oncoming traffic. Tragic.
What are your plans for this character in-game? Midge is a unique character from a unique canon in that she's not superpowered, has any powers, or has a motive to save the world--she's a divorced mother of two that just wants to make it big in stand up comedy. Apping her into a game like this I think would be a genuine blast--I want to challenge her narrow, 1950s view on life more than it's already being challenged on the show. Getting Midge out of her comfort zone canonically is a riot and always a learning experience for her, so why not a game setting?
What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? I do want her to explore a bit and also engage in some of the mystery--she's whip smart and one hell of a problem solver, so she'll want to learn all she can about the lore. She might explore a little later on in the game, but for now only a little bit to start.
Primarily, she's ideal for a sort of support role/'the heart of the team'/home base shenanigans. Organizing things in the main village, cooking, all of that 50s housewife stuff but on a much larger level: she's definitely got the skill for it.
How does your character generally get along with other people? Midge thrives in social situations. She's the life of the party, always ready to make people laugh, and she has a hard time taking no for an answer: especially when it comes to the companionship of broody, sarcastic, or chip-on-shoulder types who just want to be left alone. She's amicable, personable and her true strength lies in observing and getting to know people and what makes them tick. Back home, she often entertained guests even before she tried her hand at being a stand-up comedian. Because of how good she is at social connections and how easily people tend to trust her, it's awful easy to get and learn about secrets. It's a trait she gets from her mother. She's been trained to be the epitome of a 1950s housewife since she was little, and a 1950s housewife gets along with everyone--the only difference is that now, given her stand up career, she's not afraid to tell people off if she feels the need to. She swears a lot more now, too.
What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Because she doesn't die in her canon, there's a lot of unresolved things she's going to be thinking of--she's got two children, a proposal that was pending only the blessing of her father, and the chance to go on tour and get her big break as a Comedian. She's not going to be thrilled to say the least--she's going to be devastated. It may take a while for her to admit to someone just how badly she'll be doing mentally, however: she's a staunch believer in strangers never knowing any misery. Except, of course, when it comes to her stand up: humour is how she copes with trauma, and obervational humour is where she thrives. There's a difference between breaking down in front of a stranger and adressing an entire crowd with 'so my life fell apart today.' There's a very high probability she'll work through the trauma the moment she can start writing up a tight 10 minutes of material. It should also be noted that she's very staunchly and proudly Jewish: this being the afterlife is certainly going to throw her for a loop, and I can't wait to see how this plays out.
Skills/Abilities: Midge is a perfectly normal human! Other than charm, wit, and legs that last for days, she has no special powers. She is one hell of a cook (for the most part), can probably still read a little bit of Russian from her Russian Literature days, and it stands given the time period and her love of clothes, she can sew adequately.
Flaws/Weaknesses: Again, she's a normal girl in the 1950s--but for all her effervescence, she's got her flaws. She's still a normal human, regardless of how well she walks in heels, and because she's from a fairly affluent family, she still catchers herself being a little judgemental. She's also more than a tad vain, although that's partially because she just enjoys clothes and makeup and partially because her mother instilled that beauty is the only thing that really matters to a woman. She's working on all of these faults actively, but it's a long, slow process. She can also be stubborn to a fault, and incredibly easy to trust. As for personal weaknesses--while her and Joel are divorced, she still cares for him greatly, and as much as her family is high strung and a little nuts, she loves them more than the world. Especially her children, Ethan and Esther. She has an incredible soft spot for her manager, Susie Meyerson, as well. She struggles a lot with feelings of self-worth and loneliness, too, especially since Joel left her--on Yom Kippur, no less. Her other main flaw is her complete lack of impulse control: she'll change up her stand up routine on a whim just to piss off a bunch of misogynistic men, or yell at a judge because she thinks she's being treated unfairly. While she does it to stand up for herself or others, it still gets her into a load of trouble and, at times, even jail.
Personality: Miriam Maisel is a firecracker: she always seems to have some kind of clipped, quippy comeback no matter the situation, she's bright, confident, and eerily observant when she's not wrapped up in a lot of her own personal problems. Her humour is her biggest trait--she loves getting other people to laugh, and being the center of attention while doing so is certainly another plus. If you need a quick fix or a problem solved, it's probably best to go to Miriam for advice, even if in this setting the advice may be a little outdated. She's practical, too, and highly organized on top of her quick thinking. Despite her sometimes sardonic sense of humour, she's caring and has a big heart.
She's not without the negative aspects of her personality, of course--she's a product of her times and privilege. While she's lacking the narrow mindedness that does come with being affluent and white in the 50s, she makes mistakes like anyone else. She tends to be far too self critical, and her stubbornness and the need to fix things has gotten her into trouble as much as it's helped her.
Items: -this outfit
-what she was carrying (a few extra outfits, a few hats): if this is too much, then just the coat she's got on and her purse containing 3 lipsticks/emergency makeup, some change, and her comedy notebook.
